Performs routine to semi-skilled instruction of swim lessons, in either a group or individual setting, using curriculum from the American Red Cross; ensures the safety of the students and performs related duties as required.Supervision received:
Works under the general and technical supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor; receives general oversight from other community center managers in the absence of the Aquatics SupervisorSupervision Exercised:
None Typical Duties PerformedThe listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this classDuties may vary somewhat from position to position within a class. Monitors patrons using the community center aquatic facility to ensure safe use of the facility. Recognizes when assistance is needed and performs rescue techniques when required. Enforces aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations. Inspects the aquatic facility in accordance with the daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor. Records information on pool usage as directed and prepares incident reports. Provides suggestions for pool activities and games and assists with those activities. Participates in scheduled in-service training sessions and participates in written skill exercisesMust remain current on all required certifications. Assists members and guests, without compromising public safety, with requests and provides information. Assists custodians with pool and equipment cleaning and minor maintenance, as scheduled or requested. Performs other duties as needed or required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of American Red Cross swimming lesson and water safety curriculum and applicable instruction techniques. Working knowledge of monitoring and rescue techniques for an indoor aquatic facility, including first aid and CPR. Working knowledge of effective customer service and customer relation techniques. Working knowledge of facility policies, procedures and rules. Considerable ability to observe and detect possible problems and to respond appropriately, including the use of rescue techniques, first aid and CPR until first responders arrive. Ability to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons in a manner that is easy to comprehend and compatible with participant's age and capabilities. Ability to express direction to students clearly and in a positive manner. Working ability to use large motor skills to physically assist participants in the pool Working ability to work around pool chemicals, heat, and humidity associated with a public pool. Working ability to maintain order among class participants. Minimum and Desirable QualificationsMust possess and maintain current American Red Cross certification as a Water Safety Instructor and First Aid and Safety and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.All part-time employees of the City of Monticello are eligible for the following
